The one-way clutch transmits or supports the torque in one direction through the friction connection, the change of the direction of rotation disengages the cooperating elements, allowing for unloaded (idle) movement in the opposite direction.
Backstops are available in various designs and dimensions for various applications depending on torque, switching frequency, idling speed and operating conditions:
  • backstop ball couplings,
  • needle type backstops,
  • one way roller clutches
  • backstop ball-roller couplings.
Backstops are used as:
  • Clocking elements to convert the oscillating motion into an intermittent rotary motion, while enabling a stepless adjustment of the stroke amount (tact).
  • Backstops that allow rotation to be performed in one direction only while preventing rotation in the opposite direction.
  • One-way clutches disengage the drive after reaching a given speed, so as to allow the driven machine to continue running after the drive is disconnected or, in the case of two operating speeds with independent motors, to enable gear shifting.
